When it comes to your photography do you prefer this or that? How does that compare to other photographers?

A fellow photographer here on Medium Gareth Willey recently published an article titled This or That challenge for Photographers in which he challenged other photographers to answer five questions about their preferences.

It seemed like a good idea and I thought I would jump on board and answer the questions myself. I’ll also pass on the challenge as well. I’d be keen to see your answers so feel free to respond in the comments, or use it as a prompt to write your own article and tag me so I can see your responses too.

#1 — Prime or Zoom lens?

My preference here is for the zoom lens.

Yes, I know you will get a bit better image quality from a prime lens, and I have nothing against “zooming with my feet”, I guess I just prefer the extra flexibility gained from a zoom lens used correctly.

I own as many prime lenses as I do zoom lenses and I use primes in certain situations for sure, but often I prefer to use a zoom lens (especially for events and portraits) to capture the composition I want without necessarily needing to get…
