Should I upgrade to mirrorless?

No, I haven’t yet… but should I? Is there a tangible benefit to doing so and is it worth the cost?

I recently took part in a discussion on social media that was the result of this question.

Do you intend to switch to mirrorless in 2022? If so, what camera would you choose?

The question had a lot of answers, as I’m sure you can imagine. They ranged from “I already have and wouldn’t go back” to “No way in hell.” I am simplifying of course but it did make me think.

I haven’t “upgraded” or switched to a mirrorless camera yet despite it no longer being new technology. The reason being is along the lines of “if it’s ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This isn’t to say I haven’t wanted to. I have. I’ve watched the announcements of some of the new cameras and had to wipe up the drool from the corner of my mouth. Despite that and geeking out about the features, it still kept coming back to the idea that it’s a lot of money to spend on a device that ultimately does the exact same thing that my existing camera does.

Yes, there is features that would be nice to have but is switching to a mirrorless camera system going to improve the photos I make with my camera?
