Pondering the Metaverse

The excitement and concern over the future of social media

By now, most everyone has heard about the Facebook company name change to Meta. You may have an idea on what that’s about and maybe you’ve watched the videos released about it.

There is a lot that is worth being excited about, especially for someone who is very much into technology and gadgets and digital or virtual experiences. At the same time, there is plenty of concerns worth examining as well. Privacy, addiction, cost of entry, crypto and more.

This vision of the metaverse starts with a virtual home. This virtual home will be a private digital space that you enter when you “login” to the metaverse. It can be customisable and is a place you can use to display or interact with the various digital NFT products you’ll invariably end up purchasing or earning. It’s a gateway to a larger digital world.

You can also have an office space where you work. This could be any virtual office you want. Always wanted that large corner office with a view over the city… it could be yours, virtually of course. (This of course assumes you’re in a job that you can work from home). Always wanted that awesome computer system with six monitors (only two of which are really useful)? In the virtual office you can have as many monitors as you want and…
