Open source alternatives to popular software

Let’s face it, when it comes to software there is some amazing stuff out there and the most commonly used software often tends to be expensive or subscription based or platform locked. I have nothing against closed source software or paying for applications that are amazing and help get the job done effectively or efficiently.

Sometimes though, paying for expensive up front software or subscribing to subscription based software isn’t in some peoples budgets… and that’s understandable as well. So let’s look at some free and open source alternatives to some popular software.

Minecraft | MineTest

Everybody knows Minecraft, that popular voxel based game all the kids loved with a near infinite world and endless possibilities for creating. Yeah you know the one.

MineTest is a free and open source alternative voxel based game with huge potential for mods and game modes. It has a near infinite world with biome generation and so on and so forth. There are plenty of mods and addons available in the community for it already.
