Linux for Photographers
Can a free and open source operating system with no Adobe software really be useful to photographers?
As someone who enjoys technology and has been over time involved in developing software I have a keen interest in the open source Linux operating system. I’ve used it and followed it’s development over the years since being introduced to it in the early days when it was still very young (and so was I).
It was amazing to me at the time to think this operating system, in competition to the widely used Microsoft systems, was developed and given away for free.
Over the years it’s grown into a force to be reckoned with. Linux runs more than half of the websites on the internet. It runs behind smartphones, smart appliances, televisions and even more. You’ve probably used Linux in some form or another even if you don’t know it. Such as an Android phone or the television in your living room.
These days a Linux operating system is still free and open source, it’s desktop environments are slick and modern and there is a plethora of free software out there for just about anything you can imagine.
