I tried virtual reality
I was always skeptical about these so called virtual reality headsets. After all, how could what seems like a relatively bulky thing strapped to your head with a pair of controllers in your hands possibly even be close to reality, let alone close enough to be virtual reality.
It was one of those things that just didn’t seem like it would be worth the money or time.
I was wrong.
My son saved up and brought himself a second hand (but still in good condition) Oculus quest virtual reality headset. It was his money and he really wanted one so I wasn’t going to stand in his way. When I put the headset on for the first time I was instantly immersed in this place. It was his “home space” which took the form of a luxury apartment that opened out the side of a mountain with a spectacular view.
I distinctly remember standing at the edge of this house looking down the mountainside that just fell away below me and my dislike of heights kicking it almost instantly telling me to get away from the edge.
It was only moments after putting on the headset and to be honest, despite my not liking heights and not particularly enjoying that feeling, it was also what really did bring home the level of immersion.
