I’ve seen many people on social media and some in real life suggesting that the answer to AI is to go back to using film because then what comes out of the camera is what you get. They claim it’s the only way to be sure it’s not a hybrid of photograph and AI.
The problem is…. they’re wrong!
Film isn’t safe from AI. Safer, perhaps, but not safe.
When it comes to shooting film, you’re left with two options on how to develop it. Invest the time and money into the resources to develop it yourself or you can send it away to a place to get it processed.
Most external processing places these days will develop the film then scan the images with a high resolution scanner and the end result is that you end up with high-res digital images just begging to be put into Photoshop (or otherwise manipulated).
What settings did they use when they scanned the film? Did they themselves add some contrast or make changes to “enhance” it for you? How do you know.
Either way, the end result with shooting film these days for most any of us would be that the resulting negative gets scanned into a computer to be put online or shared on social media, etc.
As soon as it’s been scanned into a computer and turned into a digital image, the possibility is there…
