Editing photos for viewing on mobile

I recently did a maternity shoot, during which the weather turned on us. The plan had been to shoot at the beach but pouring rain, gale force winds forced us to change last minute to a different location a fair distance away. Instead of being at the beach during golden hour, we ended up in some beautiful forest with thick grey clouds which was fairly different to what we had planned for.

Still, the couple was great and we went ahead with the shoot because we were running out of time for getting them done and didn’t want to postpone. Long story short, the photos turned out beautiful with some post processing. The editing was done on PC and they looked great, but then when we sent it to the mobile phone to check how they looked, some of them looked a little overdone.

If you’ve done photo editing before then you’ve probably come across display calibration. You might think that this is the answer, by calibrating the monitor on the PC it would fix the problem, right?

Well not exactly. Display calibration calibrates the display for printing purposes, so that what you see on the screen closely matches what you will get when you print it. What it won’t do is match the screen on your PC to the screen on your mobile, or anyone else’s mobile for that matter.
